Dear West Coast Hockey Prep Camp Network,
I am writing to share some exciting news about the future of our camp. Mike Coflin—Calgary Flames NHL Scout and 18-year Prep Camp co-owner—is stepping into the role of Camp Director, taking over for me. Mike’s professionalism, experience at the game’s highest levels, and relentless commitment to excellence make him an incredible fit to lead us forward.
After 18 years as an owner and 16 years as Camp Director, I am thrilled to pass the torch. I am deeply proud of everything we have accomplished together. I am proud of our reputation in global hockey circles, within my own community, and across the City of Port Alberni. I am proud that we consistently attract high-performance athletes from up to 15 countries each summer, reaching over 20 countries worldwide. I am proud when I hear that our alumni are thriving.
To ensure a seamless transition into this new chapter, I am stepping into a supporting role as “President.” All hiring inquiries and staff expressions of interest should now be sent to mcoflin@prepcamp.com instead of me.
I am also taking this step to create space for my growing leadership development business, and I want to ensure that camp leadership remains a top priority—which it absolute is under Mike.
On a personal note, the full-circle nature of this transition is not lost on me. Back when I was new to BC in 2009, I met Mike. He was one of the first people to take a chance on me as a hired coach, at the Earl Marriott Advanced Skills Academy. Mike introduced me to Mark Taylor, Kerry Gladson, and Ronnie Paterson – our fellow Prep Camp partners. Without those relationships, the last 18 years of my life would look entirely different. Prep Camp has been a central part of my world 365 days a year—long before I met my wife or had children. In fact, I’ve spent a cumulative 1.5 years of my life living at the Lodge!
While my day-to-day role is changing, I remain keenly interested in our alumni, and please join me in welcoming Mike as we kick off this next chapter together.
