Dom DiRocco – Head Coach SDE, SDHL (Sweden)
Gratitude. “The quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness (Oxford dictionary).”
It’s not the first noun that comes to many people in the middle of this pandemic. Yet for Dom DiRocco and SDE of the Svenska Damhockeyligan, it’s the value that’s become the cornerstone of their season. While in lockdown at her family home in Port Alberni in the spring of 2020, Dom could not have imagined she’d be flying to Sweden, in the pandemic, to live out her dream coaching professional women’s hockey. I caught up with Dom today to discuss what it’s been like living out her dream during these challenging times, the perspective it’s given her, and how this opportunity has shaped her as a coach.
