July 17-22 (check in night of July 16)
Age Groups:
- Junior: ages 17 and up (‘93 and older)
- Midget: ages 15, 16 (’94-’95)
- Bantam: ages 13, 14 (’96-’97)
- Peewee: ages 11, 12 (’98-’99)
Details:
- Players will train separately at times, and join for game and team play sessions
- 2 x 75 minute on-ice sessions
- 2 x 60 minute off-ice training and conditioning sessions
Goalies
Prep Camp hires the staff of Goaltender Development Institute. Our staff from GDI has made their mark on goaltending development in Western Canada. Mentored by GDI President Ian Clark, the goaltending coach of Roberto Luongo and the Vancouver Canucks, our staff are competent and industry leaders. Goalies that come to our camp get better.
Goalie Camp Curriculum:
- STICK HANDLING - passing, transitions
- TACTICAL - screens, deflections
- TRACKING THE PUCK - tracking, wraparounds, walk-outs
- REBOUNDS - Visual attachment, post save recovery
- SHOT PREPARATION - set position, ice awareness, save control
- SAVE MOVEMENT - pad saves gloves, blocker, chest, stick, shoulders, and elbows
- PSM - backside intro, butterfly slide up to down, butterfly slide down to down, pivots
- SKATING MOBILITY - shuffle, T-thrusts, sculling fwd-bwd, stance, starts and stops
Defense Curriculum:
- SKATING - all aspects of skating, pivots, lateral mobility, etc.
- PUCK SKILLS - puck control, point shots, first passes on the breakout, smart dumps
- DEFENSIVE CONCEPTS - how to play a 1-on-1, 2-on-1, 2-on-2, 3-on-2, gap control
- DECISION MAKING - when to join the rush, when to pinch, defensive pressure vs. containment
- CHECKING - angling opponents, body checking, controlling the front of the net
- OTHER- shot blocking, communicating with partner/goaltender
Forward On-Ice training will include:
- SKATING - all aspects of skating, pivots, lateral mobility, etc.
- PUCK SKILLS - puck control, deflecting point shots, first pass support on the breakout, retrieving dumps
- OFFENSIVE CONCEPTS - how to play a 1-on-1, 2-on-1, 2-on-2, 3-on-2, attacking weak gap control
- DECISION MAKING – leading the rush, following the rush, options when a D pinches, passive vs. Aggressive forechecking, defensive zone positional play
- CHECKING - angling opponents, body checking, controlling your man
- OTHER- shot blocking, communicating with line-mates, power play, penalty killing
